PDF or HTML?

To view the footnotes simply click on either the PDF or the HTML link next to each chapter.  If you are not familiar with the difference between these two formats please read the following:

PRINTER VERSION (PDF)
PDF is better for printing because the document's page layout and formatting are preserved.  PDF stands for Portable Document Format.  It is a file type created by Adobe that allows a format-sensitive document to be shared between users with different operating systems and software.  To view and print the PDF files you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader.  The reader can be downloaded for free at the Acrobat website.

ONSCREEN VIEWING VERSION (HTML)
HTML is better for onscreen viewing because an index frame is provided to help navigate through the footnotes.  The footnotes will load directly into your web browser.  You can jump to any footnote by clicking on its number in the index frame.  If you want to print out the footnotes from the HTML page you must click on the footnote frame before choosing print from your web browser.  Otherwise the browser may just print out the index frame.

When you use the cross reference links in the HTML versions, your browser will open a new window with the new note.  We recommend that you close the window after viewing the new note, and that you use the navigation bar to change chapters for extended viewing.  While you are technically able to keep opening new windows using the cross reference marks, we have found that opening too many can slow down the browser.
